In the context of two theories of social communication: “agenda setting” and “spiral of silence” the author presents the issue of the presence of Church institutions in social media. The article is a re lection on the issue of the image of the Church in the media, in order to show the need to conduct activities to preserve the positive image of this theandric reality, to present the method of theological defense of this image (apology), and then give indications from the documents of the Church Magisterium regarding the relationship between the Church and social media. The further part of the article presents the functions of social media in the Church in the light of the media science, the speci icity of the message on the Web, as well as conclusions inalizing the whole theological and media re lection. The article is a cross-sectional, theoretical re lection on the issue.
