The article analyzes the newest movie from Andrey Zvyagintsev (Loveless, 2017) in the context of previous creations of the director up until this point, his specific philosophy and theology. “Loveless” is a classical psychological drama, with little to no religious symbols, which are faint, “clouded”. Despite this, the article is trying to treat them as theological places, evoking the presence, or frequently the modern lack of presence of God – and also God’s overview of the reality, which allows us to distinct good and evil. These include: The theological title of the movie, some of the filming techniques or finally the figures of Christ – although in their apocryphal, weakened versions. These tropes allow us to read the aesthetic, attractive reality of living in a big city which was presented in the movie (in a dispassionate and non-evaluative way) in categories of modern hell and the sins of the modern days. This analysis enriches the psychological reading of the movie; testing the means of visual theology in the context of the movie at the same time – seemingly – irreligious, considering the signs, which are sometimes far away from orthodoxy.
