The nature of citizen journalism as it is present in Polish media coverage

This article presents various issues regarding the genesis of citizen journalism and the way it affects the process of building democracy through its struggle against marginalization of selected social groups. The author discusses technological changes which shape contemporary media, but he also indicates the similarities and differences between employees of mainstream media and grassroots journalists. His primary focus is to demonstrate mutual editorial and financial dependence, which in consequence affects given media coverage. He subsequently performs an assessment of journalism itself, being an instrument of forming citizen society. Finally, the author refers to the typology of citizen journalism and its distinction of various levels of involvement in the process of media coverage creation.
