One of the key issues in psychology is conflict. There are no areas of human activity where various conflicts (conflict of conscience, collective conflict) would not exist. Various conflicts are distinguished in feature films, especially in constructions based on the protagonist’s pursuit of a goal. The conflict appears in commercial, genre and artistic cinema. Screenwriters and film theorists distinguish between external and internal conflict. The detailed theories mention the existence of situational, environmental and interpersonal conflicts in film narratives. The article will discuss the differences between the definition of the term “conflict” as understood by social sciences and its counterpart in film theories. The main part of the article will present the results of the analysis of the film „Corpus Christi” (2019, directed by Jan Komasa). The problem of internal conflict within the local community will be discussed. So are the internal contradictions in the character of the hero. The methods used by the filmmakers of presenting conflicts in filmmaking will be discussed.
