The development of information and communication technologies and digitalization of the media contributed to the creation of new opportunities for the sharing of cultural heritage to the general public, to arousal of interest in museum exhibits, to the transfer of knowledge and to the desire of repeated visits.The aim of this paper is to analyze the practical consequences of changes taking place in the functioning of museums in the perspective of cultural convergence and the challenges it brings. The article refers to various applications of new media and digital technologies used in museums in Poland and around the world. The thesis here is that the culture of media convergence impacts the shape of museum exhibitions, while the new media eliminate communication barriers at the level of the institution of museum and visitors, which results in the increase in attendance.
