Happiness and its Phantoms in The Teatroteka Productions

This article focuses on the ilms produced based on the latest dramatic works by Polish playwrights by the Documentary and Feature Film Studios (WFDiF) part of the Teatroteka project. The dramas refer to the most burning issues for the contemporary people. They pose questions about the values and aims. With this, they reiterate the question about the meaning of life and become stories on pursuing happiness. This article discusses the last ten productions, with a special focus being put on the question of happiness. The author argues that the protagonists of those latest dramas tend to be unhappy characters who struggle to achieve a sustainable happiness due to various de iciencies of biological, psychological or social nature, with dysfunctional family relationships being the main obstacle. Unable to act in accordance with their own will, the characters seek for readily accessible illusions of happiness which usually obscure the actual happiness that they could achieve.
