The aim of the article is to examine the research areas undertaken by the authors of doctoral dissertations being written in Poland after 2011 in the discipline of “communication and media studies”. (formerly “media studies”). The authors analyzed 160 dissertations. On the basis of the research, they concluded that the most common areas of research are: Internet and new media, media content research, media and journalism history, political communication and public relations and media marketing.The authors of the dissertations definitely more often study the media in Poland than foreign media. We can also talk about the specific research profile of the individual universities where the research dissertations are created.
