“Mira Sane Ope Marconiana”. The First Radio Broadcasts of Masses

The coronavirus pandemic that swept the entire world in March 2020 has further demonstrated the huge evangelistic potential that electronic media create. On an unprecedented scale, the Church began broadcasting masses via radio, television and the Internet, reaching all interested persons in a safe way. The article presents the circumstances of the first radio transmissions of Holy Masses in Poland, carried out on Radio Poznańskie on the Resurrection Sunday and on Easter Monday, April 17 and 18, 1927. The position of the Holy See was also brought closer, which evolved from fear to ‘Sacramentum Caritatis’ points out that thanks to transmissions participation in the festive liturgy has gained a wider meaning than in the past. However, both popes emphasize that this does not release those who can go to the temple from ‘participating in the Eucharistic celebration of the living Church’.
