Sacrifice or feast? Theological ideas presented in the oldest testimonies of the celebration of the Eucharist

The numerous cultic forms of Israel are a visible prefiguration of the future, highest form of worship and the only sacrifice – the Sacrifice of the Cross, foretold in the event of the Last Supper. However, the context of the Paschal Feast in which the Eucharistic Sacrifice was performed also indicates the idea of feast. Hence, in the church there were and are live discussions about the proper distribution of accents on the subject of sacrifice and feast. In many cases, early Christian practice is given as an argument, but one should carefully examine the oldest evidence of the celebration of the Eucharist to see what theological ideas appear in these testimonies.
