Christian religion, being a universalist religion, is characterized by mission. This task also fills the Russian Orthodox Church. In Polish-language literature there is little works about the orthodox mission in Russia. In this article is described the missionary activity of the Orthodox Church in the nineteenth century, in which there was an increase in missionary zeal in Russian Orthodoxy. It is associated with religious renewal, as well as the expansion of the territory of the Russian Empire. The article at the beginning talks about the general overview of the nineteenth century in Russia. The second part lists the main areas of missionary activity and tools used in evangelization, such as: assosiations, schools or mission journals. The third part shows the figures of some of the eminent missionaries of that period.
