The Drohiczyn Church in the face of the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic

The aim of the article is to show how the recommendations and pastoral regulations in the Drohiczyn diocese were changing during the first wave of the COVID-19 pandemic and the consequent social unrest and sanitary restrictions. The content of the article analyzes individual legal acts published by the Diocesan Curia in Drohiczyn. The result of the study is to show the changes on the pastoral level that took place along with the development of the pandemic in Drohiczyn diocese. The research results indicate that despite many obstacles caused by the reality of restrictions due to the threat of the first wave of the pandemic, the diocese of Drohiczyn, through the teaching and recommendations of Bishop Piotr Sawczuk, undertook actions to maintain unity and spiritual connection between clergy and the faithful. What was also important were top-down pastoral activities which aimed at assuring the widest possible access to the sacraments that bring the faithful closer to Jesus Christ.
