Çay in Action. Tea in the Turkish Cinema in XXI century

This paper describes tea culture in Turkey (material and immaterial components of tea culture). Author presents a short history of tea. Afterward the tea rituals are compared with representation of tea in the Turkish cinematography after 2000 (for example, films directed by N.B. Ceylan and S. Kaplanoğlu). The paper shows the process of tea preparation, serving and relationships which accompanying tea drinking in the Turkish films. Author uses B. Latour’s the actor-network theory which helps understand the role of tea in the Turkish society.
