The creation of information: pseudo-events in politics

Modern media's monopoly on information has made politicians striving to gain its support. The political activists' (players) need for media appearance is growing so strong, that it leads them to create their own unique image. We are witnesses of transition "from ideology to imagology", caused by shocking photos, controversial comments and artificial events. Therefore, the topic of my lecture will be the phenomenon of pseudoevents (term invented by D. Boorstin) as planned and created (by the political marketing specialists) events. As a result of their "processing", these events become a free political advertisement created by the politicians themselves. This phenomenon will be explained by a reference to few examples from the world of politics.
